When to buy an Apple Product?

Just found a useful site. Don’t you just hate it when buying apple products that after getting the latest model after a month or two, the next release comes sooner than you think with new awesome features, leaving you with an older model. Well it happened to me before, I bought an Ipod Photo 60gb then soon after a week or two the Ipod Video came out. arrgh the angst.

If your contemplating buying any Apple products like a Mac Book Pro or IPhone 3g, etc. Check out this site first if it is the right time to buy, it’s rumor based but very informative.

Programming skill level

Saw this blog post from 2005 about identifying your skill level in any programming language, the post still remains relevant and hits the points right on. Author stated it would take you 10 years to become an expert programmer, but that I think is debatable which is the only thing I don’t agree with his post.

Which skill level do you think you have?

Quoted from procata.com

Level 1: Beginner

* Little or no previous experience
* Doesn’t want to learn: wants to accomplish a goal
* No discretionary judgement
* Rigid adherence to rules

Level 2: Advanced Beginner

* Starts trying tasks on their own
* Has difficulty troubleshooting
* Wants information fast
* Can place some advice in context required
* Uses guidelines, but without holisitic understanding

Level 3: Competent

* Develops conceptual models
* Troubleshoots on their own
* Seeks out expert advice
* Sees actions at least partially in terms of long-term plans and goals

Level 4: Proficient

* Guided by maxims applied to the current situation
* Sees situations holistically
* Will self-correct based on previous performance
* Learns from the experience of others
* Frustrated by oversimplified information

Level 5: Expert

* No longer relies on rules, guidelines, or maxims
* Works primarily from intuition
* Analytic approaches only used in novel situations or when problems occur
* When forced to follow set rules, performance is degraded

Domain Buyer? hmm smells like a scam!

I got this email yesterday. It made me excited for a chance to turn one of my domains to some bucks, BUT one thing I learned online is if it is too good to be true, then it must be a scam. Plus the email has the looks of a generic email.

my name is Brandon Birdwell and I would be interested in buying your domain xxxxxxx.COM from you. Are you interested in selling it? If yes, how much would you want for it? What payment method would you prefer?

And just in case you are wondering how I got your email, anyone can get that info at whois.net

My Home Office

If you are going to freelance and want to work at home, you really need a private space so you can work efficiently. Early this year we had our room renovated, I was using our room for several years as an office and along with that are the irks that easily takes away your focus on you work like the TV, the kids, people coming in and out of the room, your stuffs keeps getting unorganize no matter how hard you try to keep them organize, always looking for something that you need but can never find it.

So when we had our room renovated, we have this closet room which is also the entrance to the bathroom which I also had renovated to be my office. I had the large built in cabinet removed and made space for my stuffs. Bought a USB wireless LAN so less cables and wires. Now all my things are a little bit more organized, I know where to find stuffs I need.

This is where I do all my works

Designers Salaries Survey

The 8th Coroflot’s Designer Salaries is out. Check out how the current economic crisis is effecting overall designer salaries worldwide.

More details here.

My observation: I’m still amazed on how the design industry salary in the Philippines and neighboring asian countries is about 1/8-1/4 from the global normal salary trend.
