This could be the culprit, it could have caused googlebots to not crawl the site. Now I need to investigate why my robot.txt suddenly became empty. Anyway thanks google for giving back my PR 3/10.

My Google Toolbar got corrupted about two weeks ago and I didn’t pay much attention to it, all sites I visited Pagerank were showing “No PageRank Information Available”. On this blog my PR was 3/10 for almost several months now. I reinstalled the Google Toolbar last night and saw that my PR has vanished. From what I know this happens only when you get banned from Google from doing some Black Hat SEO tricks. Well I wasn’t doing any, plus some of my post still has Pageranks but not the homepage. Researching it further I found this is happening to some sites owners as well. No one has a clue. I checked Google Webmaster Tools and my site is being crawled periodically, I checked my log files and .htaccess file.. all is well.

So far the only thing not right is the robots.txt file which I rarely modify has no data in it. It’s missing

User-agent: *
Allow: /

So I added it back and I’ll check in the next few days if my PR returns to normal.

If you are into SEO, another method of tracking your site’s importance to the internet aside from Google Pagerank is your Alexa ranking. What is Alexa and why should I be bothered with the statistics. As we all know the more traffic for your site the better. Alexa owned by amazon.com offers a free service that analyzes the traffic your website is getting, the data source is from millions of users of the Alexa Toolbar and other resources tied up with Alexa.

Alexa explains it as:

“The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users).”

http://www.alexa.com/site/help/traffic_learn_more

Too bad though that it doesnt track data for subdomains like this blog, but only top level domains. But nevertheless it offers a great service.

Here are some tips to get started.
1. Download the Alexa toolbar
2. Put the Alexa widget in your site so that visitors will see your statistics
3. Continue your SEO strategies like link building
a. submitting to web directories
b. reciprocal linking
c. submit to search engines

4. Join social networking sites to promote your site
5. Join forums and participate, add links in your signature to your websites
6. Add something free to your website, like wallpapers, themes, codes, etc..
7. Use Digg or stumbleupon, etc.. for your articles to gain more exposure.
8. And last write articles or post about increasing traffic, the more information based on your experience your offer which are legit, the more loyal your readers will be.

Overall increasing web traffic is like hitting two birds with one stone with ranking, you get to increase your ranking in Alexa and with your link building strategy get you higher chance of increasing PR from Google.

I love launching new websites and work on the SEO to build traffic then sit back and watch the fruits of your labor grow. This is the time you push yourself to learn the ins and out of SEO. I’m covering the topic on increasing your page rank or PR again. My new site Get Rich Talks was in time for a recent PR ranking by Google being farely new which is only a week old, 0/10 is better than “Not Available”.
There appears to be no definite guidelines or goals on how to build backlinks and increasing your PR but their results are the same on whatever guide or pattern you make, you gain more traffic and that affects your PR.

There are 3 key methods among the several methods that I am currently applying on my sites to increase the traffic and PR.

1. I recently joined digital point to gain more knowledge on SEO and how to run an effective forum. This is one informative forum on SEO, and at the same time it encourages you to post, you can add signatures on your profile after 7 days of being a member and have atleast 10 post. 4 signatures can be added which is a rich method of backlinking to your website. The more post you generate the better the backlinks to your website.

2. If you are running a blog, you see spam comments on your post all the time which are generic post or generated by bots. Concept is commenting on blogs allows backlinking, so try to converse with the poster when you comment to generate a discussion instead of just appearing spamming the post for backlinks. Comment on blogs with the same niche as yours or with high PR can bring you not only traffic but also high PR.

3. The other method you can try to increase your PR is submitting to link directories, there are 3 types, paid submission, reciprocal link and free submission. Some link directories have a higher PR. Do not link to link farms for this could lessen your PR instead of helping.

You can focus with this three methods then move on to others methods, doing all the methods you find are good but doing them all is tedious. My focus is on this three. Increasing your page rank will take time so don’t be frustrated if you don’t see results overnight or for one month.

You can read more information on my experience with Pagerank on my earlier post.

Last July, a new product from Google named Knol similar to Wikipedia was launched, a social content sharing network. The criteria for articles and to be an editor is more tougher than in Wikipedia but you can expect great content. You can also earn online in Knol for you can put Adsense on the articles posted, similar to how you do it with blogspot. The more traffic your article generates the more possibility of earning through clicks on ads. Knol has already gotten alot of backlinks, new and likely to be a hit.

Also new on the block is startup search engine Cuil (pronounced “Cool”). Searches more pages 3 times more than Google and 10 times more than Microsoft as they say. But my blog page hasn’t been crawled yet after having it submitted to be crawled likely because of the amount of submission they got. Well lets see how it goes.

After two months from launching my blog, Google gave me Page Rank 2, sweet! I managed to have an increase in site traffic with some starter blog post and getting linked in high traffic sites, my starter posts were pretty simple and were just to get my feet wet on blogging.

Increase in site traffic and having a high Page Rank or PR are almost synonymous. You need to do some SEO to build traffic to your site, one method of doing is to have incoming links, when you have incoming links from a site with high PR, there is portion of PR that gets relayed to your site, depending on how many outgoing links that site has, there is the portion relayed to you which is computed to build your Page Rank. Page Rank algorithm is always talked about and there are dozens of theories on it for it is constantly being changed and improved. Some say if you have high traffic on your site already you don’t need to have a high Page Rank. I found this great indepth article outlining Google’s Page Rank.

Google Pagerank what do we really know about it

With the new PR ranking I recently got, time to get my feet wet again by moving on the next experiment, alot of people started blogging to earn online or make money online. I’m targeting revenues from Adsense served on the site. Serving relevant ads on your site and same time having quality posts relevant to those high paying keywords is still a science to me and a work in progress. That would be my next attempt, write quality post relevant to Adsense keywords. There are a lot of online tools to find relevant keywords to blog, for one there is Keyword Tool External from Google which replaced Google Sandbox. There are dozens of tips and techniques, but the real tip is to experiment on one method, analyze and then try another method till you get successful results. You won’t know what works until you try but stick to the Adsense policy so you won’t get blacklisted.
