Force Update your HTC Hero (GSM)

If you still haven’t received your update your HTC Hero (GSM version) for Andriod Eclair(2.1) from the stock Cupcake(1.5). Eventually the Andriod 2.1 update has been rolled out in the Taiwan, US, Asia and Europe. The update is over the air. Here is a trick I learned on how to force update it if you haven’t gotten the prompt yet. The trick is to adjust the date to a future date, maybe 1 month or 2 months further. This will force the phone to check automatically on HTC servers, within a few seconds you should get the prompt. There are a couple of updates, a firmware update and the Andriod Eclair 2.1 update. Download the first update and then the 2nd. Here are some shots I took while updating. Took me about an hour

BTW my HTC Hero was bought from Hong Kong so it’s default local is in cantonese after the update.

Having spent loads of time reading many of the great blog posts about some of the HTC phones, this one included, I can’t help but want to buy one. My only worry is that i’d miss my current iPhone and it’s features. Obviously HTC make technically excellent phones but do you think I should just buy a new iPhone 4? Would I regret this?

its really a matter of preference and OS of choice. Andriod or IOs 4.0. Because of the competition they bring to each other brings out the best features for consumers, either way you can’t loose.

Does anybody know which kind of video recordsdata are supported? I remember the Intuition solely might dl 3gp using opera mini. I downloaded the twist ap, perhaps that’s the issue? How can I watch movies from websites other than youtube? Which file varieties? Often I am given the choice of 3gp or mpeg4. Cannot get either to work. Thank you to your time! Damn I wish I was eligible for the upgrade to EVO!

A reboot of my HTC Hero did the trick. As soon as it rebooted, it asked if I wanted to download.
